About the Film

If you’ve ever cried because your jeans were too small, or felt a bit ‘less than’ because you gained a few pounds, or know someone who has, please consider helping me host a screening of Embrace in East London.

What Is Embrace?

Embrace is a documentary that explores the whole deal around body image and why we and society have such an issue with it. Or, as the director says:

“Embrace is a social impact documentary that explores the issue of body image. The project has been supported by nearly 9000 Kickstarter pledgers who responded to a fundraising trailer I released in 2014, which has now had over 25 million internet views.

The inspiration for EMBRACE came about after I posted an unconventional before-and-after image on the internet in 2013 that sparked an international media frenzy. The image, which embraces body diversity, was seen by over 100 million people worldwide and led to hundreds of interviews and articles. But I soon realized how restrictive 4-minute TV interviews, 800 word articles and 140 characters on Twitter can be. This issue needed a louder voice on a bigger platform, so the idea of creating the documentary EMBRACE was born.” – Embrace Director Taryn Brumfitt from the Body Image Movement Website

To give you an idea, here’s the film’s official trailer:

Why We’re Hosting This Screening

I have worked with so many clients how much their own body shape and size can determine how they feel about themselves, whether or not they have a good day or a bad one.

We need to look at why we so often break ourselves down this way, and why sometimes the drive to look ‘the right way’ can lead us to be so miserable, or even do unsafe or unhealthy things.

(Just to be clear, I’m not saying that we shouldn’t be healthy – but let’s face it, skinny doesn’t always mean healthy and ‘fat’ (as in, not a size zero) doesn’t always mean unhealthy).

I feel this is a conversation that would really benefit us, which is why I’m trying to bring this film to our community here in East London.

Your Support Is Needed

If you or someone you know struggles with their body image, please consider reserving tickets today and coming along to the screening.

I know this time and date won’t work for everyone, and it’s not going to be of interest to everyone. If that’s you, I would so appreciate if you share it on your social media, or with your friends and coworkers, or anyone you might know who could be interested.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via [email protected] or leaving a comment below.

Thank you so much for your support.
